Women of Amsterdam - an Ode - Amsterdam Museum
A Tribute to the Women Who Shaped the City
At the heart of the Amsterdam Museum, a powerful exhibition unfolds — one that honors the stories, strength, and legacy of the women who helped shape the city across generations.
"Women of Amsterdam – an Ode" brings together more than 50 remarkable women through objects from the museum's own collection and personal items on loan. These pieces serve as tangible tributes — odes in visual form — to their influence and impact.
But this exhibition goes beyond history. The museum invited ten contemporary artists and artist duos to respond to these stories, creating new works that offer fresh perspectives, reinterpretations, and personal tributes. In total, over a hundred women are featured — from well-known names to everyday heroes whose stories have too often gone untold.
Emotional, thought-provoking, and deeply human, this exhibition doesn’t just reflect the past — it inspires the future. It’s an open invitation to celebrate, remember, and continue writing odes to the women of Amsterdam.

A Celebration of Sculpture, Freedom, and the Spirit of Amsterdam
This year, the streets of Amsterdam Zuid transform once again into an open-air gallery for the ninth edition of ARTZUID — the city’s beloved international sculpture biennale. Set against the architectural backdrop of Berlage’s Plan Zuid, along Apollolaan, Minervalaan, and Churchilllaan, ARTZUID 2025 invites visitors to experience art in the public space like never before.
Titled “Enlightenment,” this celebratory edition honors the values that define Amsterdam: freedom, tolerance, and international exchange. Over 50 artists from around the world, including emerging talent and established names, present bold, thought-provoking sculptures that reflect the diversity and energy of contemporary sculpture.
The selection spans from traditional post-war sculptors to contemporary voices who challenge and expand the very definition of sculpture. Monumental works stand beside conceptual experiments — all united by a shared creative spirit.
As you stroll through the leafy avenues, you’re not just observing art — you’re walking through ideas, cultures, and stories brought to life in three dimensions. ARTZUID 2025 is more than an exhibition — it’s a conversation in motion, open to all.
